by Benjamin Eckart
mobilesuite, Pappelallee 78/79, 10437 Berlin -

We like to invite you to the 11th ebay Tech Talk. This time, we will have two speakers talking about Server Sent Events and Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) and using the snap.svg JavaScript library. Each talk will last 30 minutes. Some pizza and drinks will be provided.

Please register at meetup.

Server-Sent Events: An Introduction

Benjamin Schneider, PayPal

Pushing content from the server to the client has a long history. In the past we dealt with techniques like long polling, Flash or Java sockets, which all seemed more like a workaround than a real solution. Nowadays everyone is talking about WebSockets. But there is yet another way to solve this very specific problem that arrived with HTML5. This talk is about giving the audience an introduction to Server-Sent Events, showing how easy it is to set up a push server and a listening client, and what the differences, advantages and disadvantages compared to other techniques are.

Benjamin works as a Software Engineer for PayPal Germany.

Using SVG Graphics to Make the World Wide Web a Better Place

Patrick Hund, mobile.de

Scalable vector graphics (SVG) are a great way to reduce your page load times and have scalable images for all devices and screen resolutions. But that’s not all - you can even manipulate your SVGs any way you choose with JavaScript, just as you can manipulate your web page’s DOM. This opens up a world of creative possibilities. A great tool to leverage these possibilities is the JavaScript library snap.svg

Patrick Hund, web developer at mobile.de, demonstrates how to do this with some live coding examples.

Please note: Stephan Köpp's talk on responsive grids had to be cancelled due to illness. Get well soon, Stephan!
